EP 5: finding Inspiration & pursuing passions

In this episode of our podcast, we had the pleasure of speaking with Wyatt, a multi-talented creative who wears many hats. From photography to DJing and running Shed Studios, a collaborative space for creatives, Wyatt shares his journey, the importance of staying inspired, and the power of pursuing your passions.

Career Transitions

Wyatt's journey in the world of photography began in high school, where he aspired to be a National Geographic photographer. His early interests revolved around landscapes, hiking, and the great outdoors. This love for nature led him to immerse himself in the landscape photography community. This was a time when meetups with fellow photographers were the norm, creating a strong sense of community and inspiration.

Wyatt eventually ventured into architecture, believing it to be a more viable career choice that combined science and art. His interest in design and graphic design played a significant role in shaping his career. However, Wyatt found himself feeling uninspired and yearning to get back into photography.

Combining Passions

Wyatt's diverse creative pursuits led him to envision a unique project: Shed Studios. The idea was to create a collaborative space where architects, designers, photographers, videographers, website builders, and more could work together under one roof. The goal was to produce creative content for businesses and even installations for festivals and parks. Shed Studios evolved into a platform for nurturing creativity, connecting people, and fostering a sense of community.

Wyatt realized that his true power lay in being a community organizer and a connector of various creative disciplines. Instead of establishing separate businesses in each field, he found his niche in facilitating collaboration and creativity.

Overcoming Burnout & Staying Inspired

The conversation takes an insightful turn as Wyatt and Summer discuss the concept of burnout. They emphasize that the term "burnout" can be misleading, as it's often a result of pursuing something that no longer brings joy or passion. Burnout is more likely to affect individuals who turn their art into a purely financial endeavor, leading to exhaustion and disillusionment.

Wyatt and Summer share their strategies for staying inspired and avoiding burnout. Wyatt recommends finding a new hobby that excites you, taking care of yourself, meditating, journaling, and practicing yoga. He emphasizes that maintaining a balance between creative pursuits and business is essential. Summer adds that finding inspiration in one's own life and embracing one's passions is equally crucial.

As the conversation draws to a close, Wyatt shares words of encouragement with the audience. He reminds us not to quit our daydreams, emphasizing that age is not a barrier to pursuing one's passions. He believes that life is about continuously pushing forward, evolving, and trying new things.

Wyatt's journey exemplifies the idea that everything will work out if you follow your happiness and maintain a healthy balance. Finding inspiration within yourself and in the community around you can be just as powerful as seeking it externally.
